This journal spread is a rather personal one. Many people started 2014 with a special word. In my case I have two words: be open. No, actually it is more a sentence: willing to be open! On my 50th birthday I realized that I'd become some sort of an island. I did not allow "boats" to come to me and I was not "sailing" to other people either. I am an introvert person and highly sensitive. This makes it difficult to communicate with others, especially in crowded places. It took me a while to realize that I was no longer willing to try to be open. This became a turning point. I know that I...

Funny thing is, at last I got my BIG Gelli Plate and now I love printing in my new SMALL Art Journal.... I even printed in sections, but I love the look. I used bubble wrap, a squares stamp and a litle funny tool that makes kind of circles (see below). The faces are hand carved stamps. The left one looks like this: The pages are not finished yet. They need words, I think. Thanks for stopping

It has been a few weeks since my last post... I HAVE been making art though! Both birthday and Christmas presents were art supplies, so I had to put them to the test... Still testing by the way... First of all I have been playing with my BIG Gelli Plate (= a birthday present from my husband). Now I can print complete backgrounds in my Art Journals! In this case I used a Doodle stencil, which gave the lovely dots all around the page. The white lines in the girls hair are removed masking fluid lines. I used a magazine add to draw/paint the girl. I need some sort of reference, but I never...

The reason for this post is that I want to wish everybody a Merry Christmas! I also want to thank everybody for visiting my blog. I really appreciate the comments and wished I had more time to respond to them. So here is a BIG THANK YOU! This Art Journal page started with a cardboard stamp. It is not hot glue but some sort of white sealant. I used a bit of soap to flatten it and than inked up the gelli plate with two colours of blue paint. I thought it was too dark. I painted white paint on a piece of bubble wrap and made white dots on the blue paint. The gelli print was not...

I promised to show you the altered art journal page. The original page you can find here. After cutting the figure I decided to glue it on a white page. On the back of the cut out page I glued a thick plastic sheet for stability. It is all a matter of taste what you like best. Below you see both pages next to each other. You do the picking! Thanks for stopping

A quick post today, because I am in the middle of preparing for Sinterklaas (a Dutch holiday). The above picture is a bit darker than the actual journal page, because of artificial lighting. The text says that if you are in the middle of designing and you have no clue, just keep on going! The picture below shows a bit of the beginning. The blue lines, circles and dots are masking fluid. For colouring I used Neocolor II crayons. This is not the final look of the page by the way. I have cut out the figure and glued a thick plastic sheet to the back. On the next page in my...

This week I spent an afternoon making stamps. I love carving stamps. Inspiration came from a die cutting set I gave to my mother. The set is by Marianne Design and I only used the clear stamp "Christmas Village" at the top of the page. (Click above image to enlarge)  I thought the die cut houses were too small (they are fine for making cards), so I carved a bigger one. I also carved a snowman and two trees, so I could make a little winter landscape. The last picture I want to show you is on coloured paper with black ink. I added silver lines and more white with a paint marker,...

The above picture is of the first gelli print I took. The "angel" is a little stencil made of white cardstock. I must admit both this print and the ghost print were a bit of a struggle. To the first print I only added black lines to the angel. See close-up below.   The second print was not very clear, so I added a lot of doodling. Maybe I went a little overboard.... Left picture is of the complete Art Journal page. The title "Try to Connect" is personal. I am an introverted person and often find it difficult to communicate with people. But I am trying! Hope...

A quick post today, because we are in the middle of a large garden overhaul. We are removing old fences, which involves a lot of digging..... We also have to move some plants. So hard work! I already told you a bit about my birthday workshop. That I am in the middle of try-outs. The purpose of the workshop is making collage material. Afterwards I will make a large collage, using parts of the paintings/drawings made by family and friends. See below one of the try-outs. This is just an impression of how a collage could look like. In fact it will look completely different because...

Past week I have been busy making invitations. I started printing the background with my Gelli Plate. I used a "glue" stamp and two colours of paint. For the word "Uitnodiging" (= invitation) and the portrait I used eraser stamps (see below). I really think it is so much fun to make your own stamps... The invitation is for a celebration of my birthday. In December I'll turn 50! If you look closely at the stamp you'll see lots of question marks and 50 in the eyes. I am puzzled. I mean suddenly this number is there! A large part of my life is over and what do I want with the rest of...
